Privacy policy
Information handled by Afrique HEMLE, its uses and your choices. Updated: 3 November 2026.
Introduction and person responsible
This policy concerns visits, forms and operation of the Afrique HEMLE portal. The person designated by the media as responsible for personal information protection is Kévin MBABE. Reading this policy does not subscribe you to the newsletter.
Information you provide
Contact: name, email, subject, message, choice allowing a response, language and handling dates. Enquiries may concern questions, interviews, collaborations or partnerships.
Newsletter: email, language, subscription status, consent date and version and source page. Hashes of confirmation and unsubscribe links secure those actions. These forms require neither a reader account nor a telephone number. Do not send passwords, identity documents or unnecessary sensitive information.
Technical information
Hosting services may process IP addresses, request and browser information and logs needed for transmission, availability and security. Identifiers derived from network or email addresses limit abuse; hashing alone does not anonymise this information.
The current version integrates neither external audience analytics nor behavioural advertising. Security information is not used to build advertising profiles.
Purposes
Information is used to answer enquiries, arrange proposed collaborations, manage and confirm subscriptions, distribute requested publications and news, respect withdrawals, protect the service and meet applicable obligations. Contacting the team does not subscribe you to the newsletter.
Newsletter and communications
Signup is voluntary and requires email confirmation. The confirmation link is valid for 48 hours; until confirmed, the subscription remains pending. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in emails or by contacting the team. Withdrawal does not invalidate processing lawfully carried out beforehand.
Cookies and local storage
Language is indicated by the /fr or /en address. Sessions and technical preferences are explained on the Cookies and local storage page. No advertising or optional analytics are activated by default.
The light theme is disabled and any previous theme preference is ignored. External video loads only after your action. Visiting does not constitute consent to advertising tracking.
Sharing and providers
Authorised team members access information needed for their roles. Render provides the web service, Neon the database, Cloudinary media and documents and Brevo email distribution. GitHub Actions supports technical processing and encrypted backups. Providers operate within the configured services and their applicable terms.
Afrique HEMLE does not sell, rent or commercially trade visitors’ personal information. Disclosure may also occur when legally required or with the person’s consent.
Hosting and transfers
Services may process information outside Québec or Canada. The website does not guarantee exclusively Canadian hosting. Regions, contractual commitments and any required assessments must be determined according to subscribed services and applicable law; this page does not certify that a transfer assessment has already taken place.
Retention
Information is kept for the period necessary for its purpose, subject to applicable obligations: subscriptions until withdrawal, requests and justified follow-up, evidence of choices and security. Information no longer needed must be appropriately deleted or minimised.
Expiry of a confirmation link does not automatically delete its record. Detailed deletion and evidence-retention schedules remain to be formalised by the person responsible; you can request the period applicable to your situation. Configured daily encrypted GitHub backups are retained for 7 days. Restorations must account for withdrawals and erasure requests made since the backup.
Security
Internal access is authenticated and restricted by role. Source documents are private, reading links temporary and forms protected by validation and abuse limits. Backups are encrypted. These measures reduce unauthorised access, loss, disclosure and improper changes without guaranteeing absolute security.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, withdrawal of consent and, where provided, deletion or cessation of dissemination of certain information. Other rights and remedies apply where available.
Explain the purpose of your request to the person identified below. Proportionate identity verification may be needed; do not send identity documents without being asked. The media reviews requests according to applicable deadlines and obligations.
External platforms and emails
YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other linked platforms apply their own policies. Review them before sharing information. If configured, an external video player is contacted after your click.
Brevo distributes emails. Depending on provider and campaign settings, delivery, open or click information may be processed. The absence of website analytics does not mean emails cannot be tracked.
Children
The website does not intend to collect children’s information without required authorisations where necessary. Contact the person responsible to report inappropriate collection.
Changes and contact
This policy may evolve with the website, services or applicable requirements. Users will be informed of significant changes where required. A new choice will be requested when processing requires it.
Person responsible: Kévin MBABE, responsible for personal information protection, Afrique HEMLE. Current contact method: website contact form, subject “Privacy — for the attention of Kévin MBABE”.
